According to the ministry, the grand opening included the cornerstone of a truck parking terminal and the modification of the American Mallya Gate and the dedication to the nation of the new business development center.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said: “An additional 17,000 square meter truck parking area will be provided at a cost of Rs 1.9 crore while the terminal for trucks will benefit from a concrete pavement, a gatehouse, a restaurant and a dormitory at the cost of the project. of Rs.5.00 crores in 2022-2023. “
He informed that the American Mallya gate, named after the founder of the port, will be modified at a cost of Rs 3.22 crore. The work is expected to be completed by March 2022.
The Minister further stated that the Business Development Center will provide all facilities under one roof to the trade fraternity of the Export-Import Bank of India (EXIM).
The minister said that due to the improved connectivity of the hinterland, the traffic of containers and other general cargo is increasing at this port. About 500 trucks come and go daily for the evacuation of goods from the port of New Mangalore to remote locations outside of Dakshin Kannada district and Karnataka state and the construction of a new parking area will be a boon for EXIM trade from this port.
The new port of Mangalore, the only major port in Karnataka, is conveniently located between the ports of Cochin and Goa. Every aspect of the infrastructure is designed to ensure that the vessels are strongly focused on the logistics needs of the customers. The port has 15 fully operational berths, handling containers, coal and other cargo.
New Mangalore Port Trust is an ISO 9001, 14001 and International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) compliant port due to its strict focus on safety and security.
