Emergency services respond to a serious accident in Karapiro, Waikato

One person was taken to hospital following a serious car and truck accident on State Highway 29, Karapiro.

A spokesman confirmed police were notified of the crash shortly after 1pm today.

A spokesperson for Fire and Emergency NZ said seven fire engines had been dispatched to help.

“Our log shows that a person is trapped in a vehicle and an ambulance is present,” FENZ said earlier.

“Early indications suggest there are serious injuries,” police said.

The NZTA said SH29 was closed until further notice between the intersection with SH1 and the intersection with SH27 due to the crash.

Police advised motorists to avoid the area or take an alternate route.
